It’s no mystery to women why they love shoes, however it is a mystery to most men.

The majority of men have shoes for particular outfits and activities. A pair of dress shoes in black and brown, a pair, or two, of casual shoes, runners, sandals and flip-flops. Of course there is a particular category of men who totally ‘get’ why women love shoes and probably could give a good portion of women a ‘run for their money’ when it comes to a shoe collection.

This article is for the men who are mystified by women’s love of shoes.

First, think about this. You would be hard pressed not to find a man that doesn’t turn his head when a woman walks by in stilettos. Right? Well there is one of the answers. Woman want to feel attractive.

More to the point though is shoes are an accessory item that completes the outfit, their look. Their clothing is not just basic suits, unless for work, as it is with men when it comes to dressing up. Women have lots of different outfits that require a shoe to go with each. Usually they have a selection of shoes that will go with a few outfits, but I’m sure most women would have a pair of shoes per outfit if they could! There is a good hint for shoes as a gift.

Maybe to explain in a different way, if you are a man who loves ties you probably have a huge selection of ties, different widths, different styles, different materials, different colors and patterns, you wouldn’t wear the same tie with every outfit you had – right? Plus you would add the latest styles of ties each season. Well it is comparable with shoes when it comes to women.

Women wear shoes to look good, for sure. When they look good they feel good. They also want to look good for their man. But they also wear shoes to impress other women. Showing off so to speak.

Buying Shoes As A Gift

So you have:

* work shoes (in basic colors – unless she works in retail, a club, or some such place where shoe fashion is a must)
* dress shoes (in an assortment of colors & styles)
* casual shoes (in an assortment of colors & styles)
* boots and booties (leather, suede, different colors & styles plus rain boots)
* spring, summer, fall, winter shoes(in an assortment of colors & styles)
* sandals (different colors and textures)
* runners (walking, running, casual, fashion wedge runners)

I could go on.  No doubt you have noticed the above if you look in their closet.

So you want to buy the woman who has everything a pair of shoes and wondering how to go about that – read on.

First is size. 

If you ware not sure what size shoe she wears then there are a couple of ideas. First, if possible, check out a shoe size from here closet. If that is not an option then as her Mother or a friend.

Women’s shoe sizes are more consistent than men’s so if she wears a size 7 shoe, you can feel safe getting her a size 7 shoe online. Keep in mind that if the high heels she wears are a certain size she probably wears a bit larger size for runners or boots because of socks. So, for example, a size 7 high heel, probably a size 7 1/2 for a runner or a boot to accommodate socks.

Second is style.

Have a look at their current shoe collection.  Do they look basic, a bit trendy, or totally ‘out there’?  Think about how the woman in your life talks about shoes.  Does she get drawn to every shoe store you pass?  Do you hear her say “oh I love these” quite often when you are in the store?  Likely she is into trendy shoes and the latest styles. The other consideration with style is what was in fashion last year may look dated this year. Granted some women do by expensive classic shoes that last season after season, but I think that is the exception.

Color matters.

This can vary but if you have a good feel for her color preferences you should do well with this.  Basically you can’t go wrong with the latest shoe in black (doesn’t have to be solid black), for fall or winter. To gamble on bright red polka dots, or florescent green may not be the best idea unless her clothing is very trendy to outrageous.

Plus you have to look at seasonal changes.  Some shoes that a woman would wear in the winter simply would work for her in the summer.

Keep an eye on what new clothing or outfits she has in mind or purchased.

Is she is a ‘green’

Then you want to make sure the shoe/boot gift you get for her is eco friendly and using sustainable materials.

When shopping online you can easily see what’s new in shoes as most have a ‘what’s new’ page, others show their newest styles right at the beginning. You can also do a ‘search by’ and select new. These shoes are what is up to the minute fashionable.

Shoes are expensive, though you can find cheap ones, but keep in mind you are paying for quality and craftsmanship.  Designer footwear are both of those plus more likely to last more than one season in her favorite shoe section.
