I (Billy) once owned a gardening and landscape business. Being in the business, often when I had a need to shop for gifts, I would buy things for the yard or garden. It was convenient because I could buy things I knew something about, knew they were good quality and were gifts that would bring lasting pleasure.
One of my favorite things to buy was a bird feeder as they are a wonderful addition to any yard and there is a type suitable for any type of situation, even a balcony where a hummingbird feeder is perfect.

Attracting birds has many benefits beyond the obvious of helping out the birds.
Birds are enjoyable to watch and listen to. Plus they are a valuable to our ecosystem.
Birds especially need our help to survive harsh winters and in the spring when they are exhausted and undernourished from the winter. Spring feeders also are a great help to keep them strong during their exhausting nesting season.
Visiting birds feeding in your yard may stay close by to nest so another great gift is a bird house.
Having safe, well designed bird houses to raise their chicks is an investment in the future health of their species.
A bird bath is a must and especially important in the hot dry months.
Birds, of course, need water to drink and they bath in it to keep clean, but also water is important to help them from becoming overheated.
I don’t profess to be a bird expert… But I do know any of these items for attracting birds make a welcome and long lasting gift that is never forgotten. Plus doing your bit to help the birds out can’t be a bad thing either!

Birders, on the other hand, seriously follow birds and actually will travel great distances to see a rarely seen bird, and love to buy all the latest books bells and whistles. No lens or camera is too expensive if it helps them get that perfect shot!
